(04/7/02) Under cold conditions, Barry Nyce (Telford) and James McIlvane (Red Hill) claimed victory in our 6th Annual Spring Open Buddy tournament. Their winning bag of 15.78 lbs led a field that weighed in nearly 200 lbs of largemouth and smallmouth bass.
As the day started, the 104 competitors were challenged with an icy boat ramp and ice build-up on their rod guides. As the day progressed and the temperature began to rise, the Nockamixon winds picked up and kept the day on the cool side.
In the end, the 57 teams weighed in 55 bass (50-lm, 5-sm) for an impressive total weight of 197.49 lbs (3.59 lb avg). In the lunker pool, Gerry McGeary (Blue Bell) and Jay Disanto (Plymouth) took largemouth honors with a 5.95 lb catch. Stephen Wheeler (Philadelphia) and Danial Operacz (Birdsboro) took the smallmouth honors with an incredible 5.75 lb bronzeback. Of the 55 bass caught, 8 bass were over 5 lbs.
Although Barry and James took honors with their large bag, they narrowly edged Kirk Zucal and Brian Clark's 15.09 lb bag and Mike Shumis and Scott Frankenfield's 14.48 lb catch.
Overall, it was a great day with some very impressive results. We would like to thank everyone that participated. In addition, we would like to thank Anglers Paradise in Allentown and Nockamixon Sports Shop in Quakertown for the prize donations.
